The most common mistake piercers make in piercing male nipples is to put the ring deep into the aureole in order to compensate for a small nipple. This can lead to nerve damage, rejection, and a never-healing piercing situation. Correctly pierced through the base of the nipple itself, the male nipple will grow larger and sensation will increase as it heals.
